Junk Removal Services in Dothan and the Wiregrass

Five ways a property gets cleared, all of them one truck and one crew. You point at what is going, and the crew carries it out, loads it and sweeps up behind themselves.

What we do

One Truck, Five Kinds of Work

Two junk removal workers carrying an old sofa across a driveway and loading it into a box truck in Dothan, Alabama Garage cleanout underway in Dothan, Alabama with boxes, old tools and lawn equipment stacked for pickup An old refrigerator and washing machine waiting at the curb for appliance removal in Dothan, Alabama

Household trash service is built for bags. It is not built for a sleeper sofa, a dead chest freezer, an attic full of boxes, or a yard covered in limbs after a line of storms. So those things never leave. They move to the carport or the spare bedroom and sit there. Every service below is a version of the same job: getting the awkward stuff out of the building and off the property in one visit. Below is the short version of each, plus how a price gets worked out and what a pickup looks like.

Tell us what is going and roughly where it sits. One photo of the pile or the room does most of the work. A clear price comes back with no pressure attached.

  • Free, no-obligation estimate
  • One visit for furniture, appliances and boxes together
  • The crew carries it out, you do not lift anything
  • Swept clean before the crew pulls away

Your request goes to an independent local hauler, who contacts you with a quote. Junk Pickup Dothan does not do the hauling itself.

    Furniture Removal

Furniture is the thing we get asked about most, and the reason never changes. It is heavy, it is awkward, it will not fit in a car, and curbside collection is not set up to take it. So the sectional stays in the spare bedroom. We take couches, sleeper sofas and sectionals, recliners, mattresses and box springs, bed frames, dressers, dining sets, desks, patio furniture and entertainment centers.

The hard part is rarely the truck. It is the twelve feet between the item and the front door. Older houses around Dothan have narrow hallways, tight stair turns and doorways sized before oversized sectionals existed. There is a sequence for that: the piece on its side or on end, then the door off its hinges, then the piece apart at the legs, clips or bed rails. Pieces still in good shape get sorted toward donation. Full detail is on the furniture removal page.

    Appliance Removal

Appliances are heavy, shaped wrong for a doorway, and split into two groups that get handled differently. Washers, dryers, ranges, ovens, dishwashers, water heaters and microwaves are ordinary loads. Refrigerators, freezers and window units are not, because the refrigerant in them has to be recovered by a proper route instead of getting crushed with everything else. That is one of the main reasons a dead refrigerator sits in a garage for two years.

The practical side is simple. Where you can do it safely, have the unit disconnected before we arrive, meaning water off and hoses drained on a washer, and a refrigerator emptied and defrosted so it does not drip down the hallway. Anything on a gas line or hard wired should be disconnected by someone qualified, not by us and not in a hurry. Metal cabinets and motors go for recycling where that route exists. See the appliance removal page.

    Cleanouts

A cleanout is not one item, it is a space. Garages, attics, sheds, carports, storage units, single rooms, whole houses. It is different work from a single pickup because most of the time goes into sorting rather than lifting. The crew loads from wherever things sit, including upstairs rooms, pull down attic stairs and detached buildings at the back of a lot.

Estate work is the version people find hardest. A house lived in for forty years holds paperwork, photographs and small things that matter mixed in with things nobody wants, and the only way through it is a walkthrough first and a clear agreement about what stays. Rental turnover is the opposite problem: the deadline is fixed, there is an inspection at the end, and the goal is an empty room rather than a tidy one. The cleanouts page covers how a whole property job gets planned.

    Yard and Storm Debris Removal

Southeast Alabama does not produce yard debris steadily. It comes in bursts. A severe line moves through in spring and half the yards between Dothan and Enterprise have limbs down by evening. A weekend of clearing a fence line leaves a brush pile bigger than any trailer on the property. The crew hauls limbs and brush, hedge trimmings, pine straw, old fence panels and posts, rotted deck boards, dead shrubs and small stumps two people can lift.

Loose brush is deceptive. It tangles, loads badly, and takes far more room than the same weight of furniture, so a pile that looks modest in a photo is often a bigger load than expected. Municipal brush collection has its own limits on length, diameter, stacking and timing, and after a wide storm event the queue gets long, so check current City of Dothan or Houston County guidance for your address. Details are on the yard and storm debris page.

    Dumpster Rental Alternative

A roll-off dumpster and a junk removal crew get sold for the same problem, but they are not the same product. A container sells you space and a rental period. Everything in between is yours: the lifting, the carrying, the stacking, the tarping when it rains. Junk removal sells the labor and the disposal together in one visit, with nothing left in the driveway afterward.

Neither is universally better. A container wins on a renovation that runs for weeks, on heavy material like concrete, brick and roofing tear off, and any time you already have your own labor on site. A crew wins on a one time cleanout, on properties with no room for a container, where an association restricts them, where a public street would need a permit, and when the deadline is this week. If a container is genuinely cheaper for your job we will say so. The comparison page puts both side by side.

    Which Service Fits Your Job

    ServiceTypical use caseTypical timeline
Furniture removalOne or a few large pieces coming out of a roomOne visit, often under an hour on site
Appliance removalA dead washer, range, water heater or refrigeratorOne visit, longer if it is boxed into a closet
CleanoutsA garage, attic, storage unit, estate or rental turnoverHalf a day to a full day, occasionally two visits
Yard and storm debrisLimbs, brush, fence panels, the pile behind the shedOne visit, longer after a wide storm event
Dumpster alternativeA one time pile you would rather not load yourselfOne scheduled visit, nothing left behind

Plenty of jobs are two or three of these at once. A bedroom set, an old washer and a stack of boxes is one trip, not three.

How the Price Is Actually Decided

Junk removal is priced by the space a load takes up in the truck. A few pieces of furniture is a small job. A garage packed front to back is a large one. There is no honest flat rate for a pile nobody has seen, which is why photos beat a paragraph of description. Three things move a quote:

    • Volume. How much of the truck bed your load fills. Bulky and light beats small and dense, so loose brush and mattresses take more room than their weight suggests.
    • Access. Stairs, long carries, narrow gates, attic ladders and whether a truck can back near the door. A curbside pile and a back bedroom at the end of a long driveway are different work for the same items.
    • Disposal type. Refrigerant appliances, mattresses, tires and electronics take a separate route and cost more to handle properly. Dirt and concrete are the exception to volume pricing, because weight binds before the truck fills.

One thing follows from that. Dragging items to the curb yourself first does not lower the price, so there is no reason to hurt your back over it.

    What Happens on a Pickup

The process is the same whether it is one recliner or a whole house.

    1. You send the job. The quote form takes what is going, roughly where it sits, and anything that complicates it: stairs, a narrow gate, a locked back yard, a hard deadline. One photo answers most of our questions.
    2. A price comes back. Free, no obligation, covering the load and the cleanup. If something in the photos is unclear we ask rather than pad the estimate.
    3. We schedule it. Same week pickups are normal across the Wiregrass. If you are working against a closing date, put the date in the request.
    4. We walk it first. On arrival we confirm the price before anything moves. Nothing gets loaded that you have not pointed at.
    5. The crew loads. You do not lift anything. Doors come off hinges when that is what it takes, and pieces get taken apart when a doorway will not cooperate.
    6. The crew sorts, hauls and sweeps. Usable items go toward donation where they qualify, metal and appliances go for recycling, and the spot the pile came from gets swept before we pull away.
    Also handled

    Specific Items and Situations

Jobs that come up often enough in Dothan to have a page of their own.

    Mattress Removal

Mattresses and box springs, wrapped and hauled. Bulky rather than heavy, and most curbside collection will not take them.

    Hot Tub Removal

Spas drained, cut apart where access requires it, and carried out in pieces. Shell, frame, cover and pump all handled.

    Shed Removal

Contents and debris from a shed that is already down. Tin, lumber, shelving and whatever was stored inside.

    Above Ground Pool Removal

Liner, wall, frame, ladder and pump taken apart and hauled off, usually at the end of a season.

    Hoarding Cleanout

Slow, private work at a pace the household can manage. Items get sorted rather than shoveled, and the family decides what stays.

    Eviction Cleanout

Rental turnovers cleared, swept and photographed so the unit is ready for paint and flooring.

    Construction Debris Removal

Drywall, lumber, tile, shingles and cabinets. The city does not take construction debris in normal collection.

    Exercise Equipment Removal

Treadmills, ellipticals, weight benches and racks, disassembled where a stairwell demands it.

    Questions

    Questions About Our Services

Which service do I need if I have a bit of everything?

Usually a cleanout, but it does not really matter what you call it. Describe what is going and we will price the whole thing as one visit. Combining furniture, appliances and boxes into a single trip is cheaper than booking them separately.

Do you take single items or only full loads?

Single items are fine. One recliner, one refrigerator, one mattress. Small loads out of the outlying towns can often be paired with another stop on the same run.

    What will you not take?

Paint, chemicals, solvents, motor oil and automotive fluids, propane tanks, asbestos containing material, and medical or biohazard waste. Those need a proper disposal route. For household hazardous waste, check current Houston County or City of Dothan guidance for your address rather than assuming.

Do I need to be there while you load?

Not for the whole job. Someone needs to give us access and we need a clear agreement on what goes and what stays, ideally in writing with photos. The crew confirms before loading rather than assuming.

How soon can you come out?

Same week pickups are normal across Dothan and the surrounding Wiregrass towns. If you have a fixed deadline, include the date in your request and we will work to it.

Where We Work and How to Start

Dothan and Houston County are home base, and Ozark, Enterprise, Headland, Daleville and Ashford are part of the normal route. The service areas page covers each town and how scheduling works across the region.
